Contemporary Dance is a combined form that uses instrumental and vocal music that allows the students to explore technique and free movements that help to build a more diverse dancer. Students will learn a range of movement and ideas from floor exercises to barre and centre work. Contemporary uses a focused idea to help portray a story or theme, movement is on a wider scale unlike that of a classical ballet or lyrical dance that is created from technical steps.
As well as broadening movement knowledge and ideas, the students also learn to become more creative within their own choreography and build on their improvisation skills. This then gives them the opportunity to develop their own ideas when creating a sequence.
