Ballet is the foundation for all forms of dance, it teaches pose, musicality, expression, discipline and builds core strength and technique within a dancer.
At Young Performers students as young as 2 can start their ballet journey. When the student is of school age, they then begin their training towards the graded syllabus classes, following the National Association of Teachers of Dancing (NATD) Ballet examination board. From the age of 4 progressing to vocational level, all students are taught the creativity and technique of the ballet discipline with the opportunity to enter graded exams annually. The syllabus teaches exercises that help to develop the strength, knowledge and understanding for the dance form as well as ballet theory, rhythm, performance quality and the classical art form of Mime.
When a student reaches a progressive level of strength, knowledge and technique, they will be given the opportunity, to develop further and begin their journey to dancing on pointe. Before the student can have their pointe, shoes fitted, they are to build the ankle and leg strength through the use of demi pointes, once this strength and awareness has been achieved the students will then begin to learn pointe. This is a separate class on top of their weekly ballet session and is an individual progression.
The lower graded sessions are 30-minute classes. This then progresses to 1-4 hours a week depending on the level of class.
